The subfloor decides the outcome
Before anything is laid, the subfloor is inspected and repaired for moisture damage, rot or unevenness.
None of those problems improve under a new floor. They telegraph through it, and then the new floor has to come up again.

Existing hardwood can often be refinished rather than replaced, which is usually the better call when the boards are sound.

Rarely a job on its own
Flooring is normally paired with remodeling and painting, because it is the surface every other trade walks on.
Sequencing it correctly against the paint and the fixtures is what keeps the finished floor undamaged, and it is the main reason one team across the whole job beats three separate bookings.
Transitions between rooms and between materials are set out in advance, since a threshold detail decided on the spot is the thing people notice afterwards.
